Got questions about Laser engraving & laser cutting? We answer them here:

Before you begin a laser-engraving our laser cutting project, there are some important questions to ask yourself:

• What am I looking to achieve?
• What medium/product do I want to use?
• Will I supply the material or will Platinum Laser do this for me?
• Will I need Laser Engraving or Laser Cutting or BOTH?
• What text and or graphic will I want to have engraved?

FAQs

1. What size can you engrave up to?
   • Our Laser bed size is 609mm x 457mm – each product/medium requires a different tolerance around the edge. We suggest you plan on an engraving space of 'up to 600 x 450' with a 10mm border/tolerance around the edge.
2. Can the machine take a larger article?
   • Yes, the total size of the item can exceed the bed size of 609mm x 457 mm. But the full size and the weight of the item is essential to know prior to quoting.
3. What materials can you laser cut?

   • We do not cut metals, glass, shell, geenstone, marble or solid paua
4. What materials can you laser engrave?

   • We do not engrave gold, sterling silver or pewter; incl jewellery
5. Do you have a minimum run size for Laser engraving or cutting?
   • No, we can do one off jobs and runs of any size.
6. What type of file format do I need to send you my graphics in?
   • The best files for us to import for engraving are:
     • grey scale – black and white vector files are best.
       • ai
       • eps
       • pdf (not scanned)
     • others files may be successful, but may require graphic design support.
     • some files such as jpg and those directly taken from the internet may not be engravable files. Some copyright protected files can incur $15,000+ in fines therefore, we are unable to engrave, cut or mark these images without the licence to do so.
     • most scanned and hand drawn designs will not engrave without re-design.
7. What if I don't have these types of files?
   • Give us a ring or email us and we can see what you have and advise you.
   • We have graphic designers that we can refer you to.
8. Can you supply the product required for my job/project?
   • We can supply many of the products that you may require for your project. Whether it is acrylic, paua shell, plywood, laminate, MDF, glass, stainless steel, aluminium, brass or even pounamu (greenstone).
9. Would you allow us to brand your Platinum Laser Gifts & Souvenirs with our own corporate branding?
   • Yes, we can personalise our gifts and souvenirs by engraving your personal sentiment, corporate logo, desired graphic or text into the product. Please note that we may have 'made by Platinum Laser NZ Ltd' printed or engraved into some of our products.
